MU supporting local schools during pandemic

During this unprecedented time many of us have been reaching out to make sure people are safe and well.

Whether this is by picking up the phone, writing a letter or typing an email, any contact is normally welcomed and whilst we are all adjusting to new normals (for now) like family Zooms, virtual church services and on line prayer groups, everyone is still getting used to this new world we have been thrown into.  None more so than families with children who cannot now attend school and therefore need to be home schooled, parents all over the country are struggling to support their children whilst working and running the house.

As a charity who put families first Mothers’ Union wanted to do something more, something immediate and something accountable.

A wonderful idea was presented to a small group who then went on to make it happen.

The Exeter Diocese of the Mothers’ Union have donated £10000 between ten schools with the aim to support families who are in need.  Many families trying to work and juggle home/ school life are without the necessary technology, they are working two jobs and three classrooms with maybe one lap top, one tablet and a phone!  How on earth do you choose which child should work on what device and in some cases which child goes without?

We are hoping to have eased this dilemma for at least 30 families in the South West.  Schools have been contacted and funds have been issued to help support those families most in need.

At Mothers’ Union we are always striving to help families in the best way we can.  We would like to thank all our members for their donations and continued support.

We thank you Lord for the exuberance of young people.  Help us to guide and encourage them, allowing them the freedom to explore while providing care to keep them safe.  We pray for our schools, for teachers and staff who work in them; may they be places of discovery, adventure and learning where children feel accepted and secure.  We also pray for those young people who have to take responsibilities beyond their years and may they receive the help they need to cope with their circumstances and still experience a good quality of life.  Amen
